Details:
Community Urban Garden – who, how and what for?
During the workshop we will learn about the history and idea of community urban gardens as well as we will talk about the first full season at Neighborhood Garden. We will discuss the question of whether community urban gardens are needed and to whom, as well as what functions they can and do fulfill in particular local realities. We will discuss also, on the basis of the info provided during the workshop, what the future of community urban gardening can be.

Responsible consumption
During the workshop we will learn how our daily choices influence the global world, food sovereignty of countries and freedom of their inhabitants. We will get to know the reasons for the economic inequality between global north and south and we will be introduced to basic ways of counteracting the economic inequality. We will get to know the practitioners who act towards a more livable and friendly society. We will learn to understand the ingredients of our cosmetics, get familiar with certifications and the method of the middle-way, thanks to which we can become responsible consumers and have a positive impact towards a different economy and society.

Processes of Permaculture
The Basics of permaculture design – theory and practice in Neighborhood Garden
During the workshop we will learn about the process of permaculture landscape design, we will discuss the basics of natural technology used in autonomous habitats – about compost toilets, fruit-dryers powered by can-collector, rocket stoves, plant-ground water treatment systems, and many more. Finally we will discuss the present and the future of permaculture in Poland.

During the workshop we will work in the garden and work on a plant-bed with ecological guild.

Garden Up-Cycling
During the workshop we will learn the most interesting details about ecological gardening and permaculture. We will make self-watering flowerpots, small garden and hydroponic systems for small spaces – all from recycled stuff. We will pick the right cuttings for home gardens. We will learn also about the basics of permaculture in the garden and in urban space. We will examine some plant guilds and will pick plant species according to alopathy, look at unusual edible plants and at frost proof polish and European plants.

Useful house and garden up-cycling
During this workshop we will focus on ways of turning waste into useful objects. We will try to open ourselves to a new perspective on waste management. We will take a closer look at what’s around us, as if we treat everything as a raw material which we are able to recycle.

Permaculture Workshop:

‘Permaculture’ results from combining two words: PERMAnent agriCULTURE or PERMAnent CULTURE, and refers to a permanent or perpetual agriculture or culture. The vision of permaculture is that of the least invasive human activity so that future generations can live in harmony with nature without suffering the effects of overusing the natural resources. The ‘permanent’ means not ‘unchanging’ but rather signifies stability, preservation of soil’s fertility and of the quality of water, sensible management of natural resources, use of renewable energy sources, bio-diversity, self-sufficient local communities, social justice, peace and prosperity.

The basics, ethics and design principle of permaculture will be introduced to us by Robert Błaszczyk, who for many years has been researching and promoting permaculture:
- we will talk about how to care for our natural environment and how to organize surrounding reality according to permaculture, we’ll talk about organic agriculture, self-sustaining habitats and alternative energy sources
- Robert will tell us about forest gardens and will introduce to us the practice of creating such gardens
- we’ll build our own rocket-stoves!
- and if there’s enough time, we will take a dive into the neighborhood, we’ll search for edible city palnts and we’ll cook something delicious :)

In mid-June and mid-July we had workshops on urban gardening. First workshop with experts from Prinzessinnen Garten in Berlin and second with experts from Prinzessinnen Garten and Schloss Broellin.

We accomplished a lot, and learned even more: about community gardening, urban gardening, ecological agriculture, as well as had photography workshops and workshops with children. Photos of the results and the process itself were taken by participants during the workshop on photography.

What awaits us now? There is a daily work in the garden of course :) , as well as many events in August. But most of all between 16th and 19th of August we will have a workshop on permaculture with Robert Błaszczyk - details coming soon.

See you in the Garden! :)
